About Us!
Company ProfileDMJ Dagupan Boneless Bangus has been operating for about 10 years now. It is a family enterprise which started in 2007. With almost 10 hectares of fish ponds located in Bonuan, Dagupan City, Philippines, the enterprise is solely devoted to bangus (milkfish) and fingerling production. It caters mostly to local markets from the province of Pangasinan and has lately expanded to markets in many provinces all over Luzon in the Philippines. With its holding facility located near the fishponds, DMJ Dagupan Boneless Bangus ensures fast, safe, and easier handling, sorting, and packaging of harvested fingerlings, ready for transporting to customer grow-out facilities.
DMJ Dagupan Boneless Bangus aims to provide healthy and strong fingerlings ready for customers not only in many farms in the whole Philippines but also abroad.
Product Description DMJ Dagupan Boneless Bangus produces and markets/sells healthy fingerlings of good genetic makeup, thus grow-out is of high percentage.
Wild bangus fry (which measure less than 1 inch) are sourced from the sea in Philippines and sometimes it is even imported abroad. These are then reared in the fishpond nursery until they grow into 1 to 4 inches fingerlings, after which they are sorted, packaged, and delivered to customers until they become grow-out bangus.
The holding facility of harvested fingerlings is located close to the fishpond, thus good health of the fries is guaranteed and stress due to transfer is thus avoided. The large holding facility measures accommodates personnel and fingerling containers in an airy and well-ventilated open space. Cleanliness of the surroundings is ensured every day. Employee break room and restroom with adjoining wash area is maintained at a distance from the work area for hygiene and sanitation. This helps avoid contamination and undue transfer of human pathogens. Flow of waste water is managed and cleanliness of waterway is maintained to avoid accumulation of dirt, molds, and fungi, which would inadvertently affect not only the production process but also the personnel and, eventually, the fingerlings. Nets and other equipment are kept off the floor to avoid contamination and to keep them sterile. Oxygen tanks are secured in two well-ventilated areas. Authorized dealers refill these tanks.
Handling Facility InformationFingerlings are taken from fishpond nursery using nets. They are then carefully brought to the waterway where they are acclimatised. From the waterway, the fingerlings are transferred to a basin. Each worker then sorts and secures a considerable amount of fingerlings in a transparent plastic bag. Another worker then connects the plastic bag to the oxygen tank and fills it with 2/3 of oxygen. The bag is then tied securely and placed in styro boxes. The styro boxes are secured in a vehicle for transport to customers for lesser agitation and so as not to stress the fingerlings. Fast delivery is planned so that the fingerlings arrive at customer’s facility strong and healthy. Motorboat is used for deliveries within Dagupan City. Outside the city, delivery vans are employed.
Handling and Packaging Facility Sanitation ProgramSets of equipment are always washed with 1,000ppm povidone iodine between exposures to different larval rearing tanks. Visitors are not allowed to enter the production facility unless approved by management. Upon admission, visitors are interviewed and logged in on the visitors’ logbook before they enter the facility. Eating is not allowed inside the facility. A separate break room is provided for such. As for the fishpond, it is drained and cleaned when emptied of fingerlings. The same goes for the waterway. It is likewise drained and cleaned in preparation for the next batch of fry.
Workers have separate sets of clothing and footwear for use inside the facility. Personnel wear aprons and black boots at all times in the production area. Boots are not shared by workers from different production units, e.g., those who work in processing and handling fingerlings do not share footwear with those involved in delivery and transportation. Workers use hair net to cover their head and keep hair in place. They also wash hands thoroughly upon entering the production area and put on gloves to help prevent contamination and transfer of particles and other elements harmful to the fingerlings. Strict sanitary measures are followed after use of restrooms, that is, handwashing with bacterial soap is enforced. Personnel who have delivered fingerlings to customers take a shower first before entering the production area. Sick leave is strictly enforced for workers who are not feeling well and have open wounds.
Pest Control PlanExtreme caution is taken to prevent pests and diseases caused by these. No known pests have ever been observed in the nursery fishpond.
